Children and Plastic Surgery?

While reconstructive surgery for children has been accepted and, in fact, there are doctors that perform these procedure for free in poor countries,  the same surgeries performed to enhance a perfectly acceptable appearance are being requested for children with large ears that stick out, noses that seem a little large for their faces, and augmentation for girls between 16 and 19.

While I don't think it wise to have cosmetic surgery until mid adulthood, some people find it acceptable.

What do you think?

Would you seek cosmetic surgery for your child?  If so, under what conditions?

Re: Children and Plastic Surgery?

I think parents need to be very careful about putting their children through cosmetic procedures.  There's a sense of entitlement that can grow from being indulged this way.

Now, if a defect is being corrected, as is in the case of doctors working on children from poor nations, the improved quality of life has to be the main concern.

Re: Children and Plastic Surgery?

I'd think the chances of a child developing an allergy associated with any surgical procedure would be a concern because it may make things more difficult later in life, if life saving surgery is needed.

I think plastic surgery, should be left till adulthood, unless it is reconstructive surgery after an accident.

Re: Children and Plastic Surgery?

I think plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery should be used in adulthood because up to teen age body is reforming continuously. If plastic surgery is had at an early stage than results in adulthood are uncertain may be.
